Sapporo Snow Festival – 70th Edition 2019

This year, Sapporo Snow Festival is going into its 70th edition. The yearly event attracts million of visitors to the city of Sapporo in Hokkaido to witness the most famous winter festival in Japan. We visited the 65th edition of Sapporo Snow Festival back in 2014 and had a wonderful time there.

The Sapporo Snow Festival, aka as Sapporo Yuki Matsuri (さっぽろ雪まつり) is held in early February every year at Odori park and Susukino. The 1.5 kilometres long Odori park showcase some of the biggest sculptures as well as smaller ones done by artists from around the world.

Popup food stalls are always available at such events. Nice to enjoy a hot bowl of crab soup in the freezing weather. When we were there, there was an xtreme snowboarding event going on too. And sometimes, there could be small scale event and concert in the arena too.

Sites allocated for snow sculptors from different country to work on.

Even Posu Kuma (the mascot for Japan Post) is here. Read more about Japan Post here.
