Flower theme Cafe 2: Nicolai Bergmann Nomu Cafe

My love for beautiful theme cafes brings me on a search journey for another flower-themed cafe, and I found my answer in the gorgeous Nicolai Bergmann Nomu Cafe.

If Aoyama Flower Market is the leader and an important player of the Japanese floralculture industry, then Nicolai Bergmann would be deemed as “the new kid on the block”, who revolutionises the nation with his western influence and brings in a new perspective to floral gifts and packaging in Japan.

Hailed from Denmark, Nicolai Bergmann started his flagship florist shop in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo in 2000 with his signature “Nicolai Bergmann Original Flower Box” – an innovative and contemporary way of bespoke floral arrangement in a lid box.

The Nicolai Bergmann International School of Floristry was located on the smaller inner streets of Omotesando but it was easy to spot the building. The glass building was surrounded with lots of greenery and coupled with the summer weather, it stood out among the rest on the street. It somehow does not feel “Japanese” and transport visitors into the Scandinavian side of the world…like the danish feel. :p

A nice first impression.

Similarly to Aoyama Flower Market Tea House, the Nicolai Bergmann Nomu Cafe is also connected to its florist shop, at ground level. With a high-ceiling, the florist shop is bright and airy, featuring signature flower boxes and vases of lovely blooms. The Scandinavian-style cafe occupies the left side of the floor-space, with a huge communal table and mainly 2-seater tables. Alfresco dining is also available for those who prefer to busk in the (occasional) summer breeze.

The cafe is so therapeutic and comfortable. Single patron again were typically referred to the communal table but I was lucky that the cafe staff allowed me to change to the 2-seater table shortly after. ?

OMG. The table is so gorgeous!!!! ? The table top has a display of violet orchids set on greenery and a tealight is set on every glass top. I did spend a moment wondering how they maintain this table top display.

It’s so tastefully done like a beautiful piece of art!

The cafe serves natural and organic food, mainly cookies, brownies, tarts, salads, wide selection of sandwiches, with tea, coffee and the widely raved fruit smoothie. Their specialty is the Danish smorrebrod (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sm%C3%B8rrebr%C3%B8d), which consist of a piece of buttered rye bread with different toppings.

Again, I was impressed with the food set-up. I especially admire the fine thoughts of how the cutleries and even black napkin blend in with the full table top display. It’s so beautiful!

Of course, how could I leave without admiring the lovely florist shop?

I noticed there are more men in Nicolai Bergmann florist than Aoyama Flower Market. Perhaps, men are more comfortable buying flowers hidden in boxes than carrying hand bouquets. ?
